Microsoft reported its quarterly earnings yesterday, and the company has reason to be pleased with itself. Revenues were at $13.76 billion for the quarter, a full 27 percent jump from last year's first-quarter revenues of $10.81 billion. "This fiscal year is off to an outstanding start with the fastest revenue growth of any first quarter since 1999," said Chris Liddell, chief financial officer at Microsoft. t’s official: Bungie Studios & Microsoft Game Studios will be releasing Halo 3 on September 25th in North America, and just a day later in Europe.
You all ready for the beta? It goes live in just 7 hours (May 16 at 5 a.m. PDT) and run through June 6 at 11:59 p.m. PDT.
Chief Financial Officer Chris Liddell said on Thursday that Microsoft aims to ship a total of 12 million of its game consoles by June 30 of this, the end of its fiscal year. This is down from a previous 13 to 15 million units target, but some industry observers feel the Redmond, Wash.-based firm is winding down inventories for an upcoming price cut.
"We assume roughly a $100 price cut with the premium unit selling for $299 versus $399 previously," said Rick Sherlund, research analyst for Goldman Sachs.

Microsoft used its keynote address at the 2007 Consumer Electronics Show to announce the IPTV on Xbox 360 service.
Expected to be available by the 2007 holiday season, IPTV on Xbox 360 will allow owners to use their game system as a digital video recorder, with some integrated features of both. In Microsoft's latest press release, they included some exciting information about Halo 3. Starting December 4th, you can register for an opportunity to play the game. The public beta is only scheduled to start some time in the Spring of 2007, but now is the time to get in on it.

Finally, after no action from Microsoft, it appears we will soon have a keyboard and mouse adapter for the 360.
The adapter not only adds support for a PS/2 (the connector type) keyboard and mouse, but it also adds support for the PS2's dual shock controller, along with turbo fire switches for all Xbox 360 controller buttons.

Rumor has it that Amazon will soon be selling an Xbox 360 bundle for $100. This would be a significant markdown, as the regular Core System goes for $299.99, while the Premium Package goes for $399.99.
The holiday promotion package is said to include the Xbox 360 Core System and possibly other accessories. Perhaps Amazon will be pairing Core Systems with 20GB hard drives in order to make room for the new 70GB unit about to drop.
Unfortunately, specific details are sparse at this point, but expect to hear something in the coming days...

GT gives us another look at the new Xbox Live Marketplace, which goes live on the 360’s first anniversary: November 22nd.

So now we pretty much know why Microsoft is doggedly pushing ahead with plans to make a Halo movie, even after two studios balked at the budget, and the unlikelihood of such a movie making any money at the box office. It will almost certainly be the topline content for Xbox Live Marketplace, the new ITunes-style movie/TV download service for Xbox 360 owners announced yesterday.
