Multiple sites, including PVRWire, are reporting on gamers illegally copying movies to the PS3 hard drive. Once the large file is on the hard drive, it's possible that someone could figure out a way to burn them.
It only took a few days, but already the Linux PS3 has enabled piracy. As the months continue, users are certain to find other ways to exploit Sony's new console. The fault lies with those committing the crime as the majority of those who download Terra Soft's Yellow Dog Linux v5.0 are likely doing so legitimately.

It's starting to look like the greatest enemy to PS3 "security" is the PS3 itself.
The opportunity to run Linux on the PS3 seems to be presenting hackers with a route to attack. It is possible to dump PS3 Blu-Ray imaes to ISO files via a Linux install. If you have a 60GB HDD PS3, you may dump images directly via the following command 'dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/imagename.img'. That said, the file structure of PS3 games is said to be similar of thsoe on the PSP. A dump of Madden 07 reveals the game is just over 7GB in size.

Sony's Phil Harrison has admitted that the company "overreached" with its decision to include a Blu-ray drive in PlayStation 3.
Referring to the shortages of blue diodes that forced Sony to postpone the console's European launch until March, Harrison told Eurogamer's Rob Fahey, "we have overreached in production of the Blu-Ray component - I can't deny that".
"But that's the price you pay for adopting brand new, leading-edge technologies that will be future proof."
Speaking as part of an interview being serialised on Sony's...

Good News
-The PS3 loads Blu-ray movies fast. Reports are that within 10 seconds of selecting the movie from the menu, its playing. Long load times have plagued standalone Blu-ray and HD DVD players so far, in that respect, the consoles may have them beat.
-18 launch titles, including true 1080p games like NBA '07. Most are multiplatform, but Madden, NBA 2K7, Fight Night Round 3 and others have added a few features to take advantage of the tilt controller, or just enhance them slightly over their Xbox 360 counterparts.
-HD Movies can be...

Universal Studios has decided not to release movies within the Blu-Ray format, according to a spokeswoman representing the Blu-Ray Disc Association.
In an email sent to PC Magazine, a spokeswoman said that Universal had withdrawn its earlier support for the format. A PC Magazine reporter had requested supporting documents when researching a previous story documenting imprecisions in surveys released to bolster the Blu-Ray and competing HD-DVD format, although that request was not actually referenced in the email.
"This spring, you...

In a move that breaks from the tradition, the Wii box-art features no Nintendo logo anywhere on the front. Usually, games featured on Nintendo systems have ‘Licensed by Nintendo’ emblazoned somewhere upon their front cover. It’s also interesting to note that the Wii isn’t being referred to as the ‘Nintendo Wii’ – again, a change from the norm.
The Wii cover certainly seems to hint at a sense of sophistication and minimalism, which (on the whole) has gone down quite well with spectators. The same cannot be said of the PS3...

The PlayStation 3 may be capable of 1080p, but there are no games that support it right now.
As it turns out, though, unless you're using the PlayStation 3 mainly as a Blu-ray movie player, you're not going to be getting much 1080p content anyway.
Sony has made an issue of pointing out that 1080p, which the Xbox 360 is incapable of, is the Holy Grail of "full HD". As it stands now, the only game that is running in 1080p, said Fargher, is Gran Turismo HD - a tech demo crafted by Polyphony to showcase what the system is capable of.

Admittedly, Blu-Ray looks dicey from several non-capacity angles. Blu-Ray movies require a 1.5x Blu-Ray drive, or 54Mbits/second. Sony announced that PS3 uses a 2x BD drive, which is 72Mbits/second or 9MB/second. The Xbox360 uses a 12x DVD, which should give it about 16MB/second. That is significantly faster for games and will result in shorter load times. And that 12x DVD drive should be a whole lot cheaper. (Note that the PS3 drive will do 8x DVD, and even that is faster than 2x BD.)

As more manufacturers prepare to jump in to the battle this holiday season they may not be able to because of their shared reliance on blue lasers. Only a few companies worldwide produce them and none have been able to get very good yields. Even Sony, who produces blue lasers for themselves and others, has predicted a shortage as they seek to roll out the Playstation 3 and BDP-S1 and have suspended shipments to others.
