No more online play for EA's back catalogue

Have you ever wondered why EA would need you to play on their servers and not Microsoft's on XBox Live? There are a lot of reasons: they like to spam you, they want your personal information, they are devilish devils who do the devil's work, etc. Justr pick one. One of the things that few of us thought of was the fact that they could turn off any game they want. There is a disclaimer on their packaging that says that they can end support for online gaming at any time, but I guess we didn't think they would actually do it. Well, they are. What better way to get you into the stores to upgrade?

These are the games that will cease to be playable online on October 1:

Madden NFL 2005 for PS2
Madden NFL 2005 for Xbox
Madden NFL 2005 for PC
NFL Street 2: Unleashed for PS2
